Basel Social Club

Mie Yim

June 13 - 19, 2022

We are pleased to participate in the first edition of the Basel Social Club, with a solo presentation of paintings by Mie Yim.

Referencing topics as varied as the Italian Renaissance, manga comics, and Kublai Khan, Mie Yim’s hallucinatory paintings appear to pulsate ever closer towards dazzling entropy. Her imagery undulates between manic abstraction and uncanny figuration – playful utopian architectures intermingle with eyes, breasts, organs, and bestial representations of warriors, both real and fictitious. By turning her subjects upside down and inside out Yim embarks on an arduous existential journey, confronting the nuanced relationship vulnerability has to power and eating her own feelings along the way. Mie Yim (b. 1963, South Korea) currently lives and works in New York City.
